The Top Ten Things to Remember when taking a Passport photo
- Make sure you know the required size photo for the country you are getting a passport for. Different countries require different size photos. For example, a United States passport photo is 2”x 2” Canadian Passport photos are 2” x 2 ¾” and Australian passport photos are 35mm x 45mm as well as most European passport photos.
- The photo must be a recent and true likeness, showing full face with no hat, helmet or sunglasses.
- The passport or visa photo should be taken against a plain evenly lit and light colored background.
- The photo should be clear and in focus
- The photo should be printed on photographic paper not laser or ink jet paper
- The subject can not be retouched, you can not remove or enhance facial features
- The photo should not have heavy shadows under the ears or chin
- Make sure you have the correct number of photos. The United States requires at least 2 photos other countries however may require 4 or more.
- The passport photos should be taken in color unless otherwise specified.
- Most photo labs take your passport photos while you wait
